Nice job! I love the comic book look you do on all of these. For me I like the Remake equally as much as the first one, they both have their ups and downs, but the Remake will always have a place for me because it was really the first horror movie that got me interested in the horror universe.

But I have to add I did like the remake. I thought it was very well done in comparrison to the other horrid remakes out there being made. My final word after seeing it was, "If the original hadn't existed, I'd love it!" Lee Ermy is probably what really makes the remake unique and sets it apart from the original and I have to give props to Lauren German's hitchhiker in the remake--very disturbing performance. All in all, I dug the remake but the original is one of the top 5 horror films of all-time in my book and the scariest film ever made behind The Exorcist. The remake is just a remake and doesn't come close to the top 5 of all-time for that reason.

Glad you liked it but I just wrote a blog on myspace on why I dislike the newer Leatherface as opposed to the original. It has everything to do with stylization. The new Leatherface is too stylized to exist in reality---everything about him is too supervillian from the dripping, dark dungeon he lives in, to his uniform outfit with the tattered and torn clothing, the leather strappings on his forearms, the flesh apron and the football player padding on his back and shoulders. And the mask is so goofy looking to me for some reason. I just think it looks like a mask as opposed to real flesh death masks. The only mask I liked in the film was when he was wearing Balfor's face when he attacks the girls at the Mill. That was creepy. But I just find Gunnar Hansen's look, lifestyle, performance and physical presence much more realisitic and less Hollywood cool. Leatherface wasn't cool or a scary supervillian in a comic book---Leatherface was a frightened man child who's home was being invaded with a serious case of split personality who happened to eat and bask in dead bodies. Gunnar is still the king in my book. But I was made to draw the Hewitt version which I really struggled through drawing. It was while drawing this cartoony Leatherface that I realized how much I disliked him. But that's cool if you like him better--there's nothing wrong with that--it's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I just have to disagree.

I agree man, I like Gunner's Leatherface better still. I did'nt enjoy the remake so much. I mean, a skin disease? come on, that's not as scary as some normal guy who's just psychotic and wears a human flesh made mask. And I did'nt care for any of the kids either, what ever happened to Mr. "Come on Franklin, it's gonna be a fun trip! *makes tongue noises* and the innocent Sally. Everyone in the remake seemed to have the same personality. I still dig the original TCM more.

Nice picture though.

I did like the remake and found it to be one of the only decent remakes of recent years. ANd I will agree that the new Leatherface is more frightening---more attacking. The original boring? I just can't understand anyone not seeing total brilliance in Hooper's original but that's how art is...one person find one thing genius while another person finds the same thing to be shit. To me, the original is one of those rare occasions when someone accidently hits all of the marks right to make something completely unique. It's like The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" or Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody"--completely original, immediately commanding and yet, impossible to duplicate. But then again, you found it boring as Hell so maybe we TCM fans are seeing through very different eyes. Maybe you're younger than me I don't know. I've come to find out that all of the stuff I think is perfect is "stupid", "boring" and "Cheesy" to this new generation of film goers. I once met a woman who thought "The Exorcist" was halarious so it takes all kinds. That movie is the only film that scares me and she laughs trough it. GO figure.
