I did this drawing for the 2003 L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest. This peice, along with two others placed in the semi-finals but did not win the contest. But being judged by the great judges, Frank Frazetta be amongst them, was reward enough.

No, the contest was L. Ron Hubbard's Contest. The contest was just a science fiction, fantasy based contest. The guy typing at the bottom of the drawing however "is" Robert E. Howard. The drawing is really an homage to Howard's writing which I've really grown to admire.

Thanks. It has flaws galore but one day I will tackle the greatest Barbarian of all-time and be totally satisfied with what comes out of me. It was Conan who actually inspired me to buy my very first comic books. Someone in my grandma's neighborhood was selling a stack of the Buscema comics at a yard sale when I was like 9 and I begged my mom to buy them for me...lol. I wouldn't buy another comic book for 4 more years when I got into Batman. I do have another Conan drawing I did based on "The Thing in the Crypt" but I don't know where that is.

Yeah, I feel Marvel never did Conan justice. The Savage sword b&w mag was great though. I have issue 1. I've been going to try a Conan my self but haven't got around to it.

My main character in my series "The Malevolent" originated with Conan. I invisioned Conan in a leather jacket in the near future. He changed from this original vision though but that was the initial genesis of him. It's funny cause 10 years later I read that Frank Miller's vision of Marv in the first Sin City novel was Conan in a trenchcoat. I just laughed when I read that.

Yeah It's funny how these little pulp stories have inspired so many and grown into legend. Will you be getting Age of Conan?

The Modern Day Barbarian title is addressed to Howard.
