THe tenth mask on horrorhound magazine"s list was 1981's "Dark Night of the Scarecrow"--possibly the greatest tv horror film ever made that fell into obscurity but thankfully got it's well-deserved DVD release coming soon. Larry Drake and Charles Durning starred in this bloodless, but creepy revenge thriller about a scarecrow who kills off the men who wrongfully murdered a mentally handicapped man for a false crime. While film's like 1939's "The Wizard of Oz" and the comic book "Batman" had featured a scarecrow character, "Dark Night" was the first horror film to use the iconic look in a movie. Since it's release, every killer scarecrow film has used this look again and again.

Yeah, the writer, J.D. said it should be out in the Spring. I had the pleasure to hang out with him at Scarefest for quite a while. He's a cool guy, very chummy with Horrorhound. They've helped this movie get released if I'm not wrong.

That is so brilliant. The mag does a lot for our favs. I read about Phantasm 2, MAniac Cop 2, Night of the Creeps and others. That's what Fangoria and Rue Morgue, etc. should have been pushing all along. Great gig you have! :)

Long one of my favorite horror flicks- I had to resort to buying a bootleg copy on DVD from eBay. Great job on the artwork here, nice to see someone paying tribute to this flick! :skull:

I saw this on TV many years ago....great little movie and one I've been waiting to see again for ages. I've even planned an homage to this one in my own splatter/horror spoof graphic novel....thanks for sharing.
