Number 11 on the 20 Most Significant masks in Horror article from issue 15 of Horrorhound magazine was...

The miner's mask from 1981's "My Bloody Valentine" which was just remade in 3D this year. Many films have used a gas mask to deliver scares because there is just something about that look that is disturbing. Valentine however was the first to really utilize it in a defiant way. Unless you count Romero's uses of the mask in "The Crazies" or "Dawn of the Dead".

Which film is better? The 1981 version or the new one?

I want a new gas mask, I'm bored with my S10.

I'm still torn about this movie.
I too turned it off half way through but then remembering the huge upswing Quarantine took in the second half I turned it back on.

The story was terrible, the acting was awful, I found myself fast forwarding through a couple of the kill scenes and seeing as this is a Slasher flick that is really sad.
But I kept it in my collection and rewatch parts of it from time to time because some of the camera work is really REALLY well done.
And no matter how good or bad you think the film is they have had some of the best 3D effects (even without the use of the 3D glasses) I have ever seen.

Mind you I bought it for two dollars and no matter how tasteless it is. It is still better than the remake of The Hills Have Eyes or the Hostel "films".

Anyhow great rendition of the mask.

I couldn't finish Quarantine either...but basically because I loved the original so much I had no need to watch a crappy American remake of it.

I'd kill to have a mask like that. Even though I'm not a Miner.

( Does wanting to be a paleontologist/Dino Hunter count?)

I work for Horrorhound Magazine and one of the editors made a replica costume of the new Miner costume in the remake and it was amazing. He did an article in one of the past issues where he told you how to make it from every little detail. In there he tells you where to buy the mask and all. If you're interested I will find out which issue it was in and you can grab you a backissue.
