Description

Number 7 on Horrorhound Magazine's "20 most significant masks in horror" from issue 15 whch I provided the artwork for is...

In the classic 1964 Mario Bava (Giallo) killer flick, the murderer is seen wearing a black trench coat, black fedora and a skin tight, faceless mask over his face. This obviously had an influence on Carpenter when he made Halloween. This was the last mask I drew for this article and you will notice, beginning with this mask and the ones that follow, the details aren't as rich. Some are, but most aren't which was due to me barely meeting the deadline for the masks (due to the birth of my daughter) and the fact that these masks were only going to be published at about 1 inch size in the mag. Any excessive detail would have been a waste of time. But this mask looks okay.

I kinda wonder if the Question's design was based on this or just coincidental? The Blank, a Dick Tracy villain, has a similar look. Anyone know when that character came out? That should end the debate of who came first.
