While hanging out with my nephew and joining in on his new enthusiasm for pro wrestling I started talking about my favorite wrestler Taz. I did this quick portrait of Taz as a tribute.

This is awesome. Do you mind if I use this in an avatar on a wrestling forum if I give you proper credit?

Awesome. Im a die hard WWE/wrestling fan and first started watching when I was 4, and am still going strong. Ive gone to dozens of events, including WM XX at MSG...amazing night. I was so big on Taz in the late 90s and was let down by his brief and sucky stint with the WWE. Everything went down hill after his debut against Angle at the Royal Rumble. This reminds me of the good old days with the FTW belt in ECW. The lighting is great in it.

Taz was my fave. Mostly because he was so believable. Most wrestlers have this larger than life persona but Taz just seemed like the real deal. Just a tough technical wrestler from Brooklyn who could outwrestle anyone. Taz's biggest problem in the WWF was when Benoit, Malenko, Saturn and Guerrero quit WCW and came to WWF on the same night--like 3 weeks after Taz's debut. Taz was getting a pretty big push in the WWF before that. JR said that Taz was not brought to the WWF to be mediocre. In fact there was a lot of talk about Taz sort of replacing Stone Cold at some point. Taz was the Steve Austin of ECW and when Stone Cold seemed to be done for when he left ot have neck surgery, the WWF's badass was vacant. Taz was going to fit very well into that spot because essentially, Taz was the Street thug version of Stone COld's redneck. But when the WCW guys came in to the WWF three weeks after Taz made a huge debut, Taz was no longer big news. Benoit and the others were more famous at the time, and it was to WWF's benefit to push them to spit in the face of rvial WCW. Also, all four men were very similar to Taz in that they all were short and were all technical wrestlers like Taz. Then Taz got injured. I think Taz had a lot of supporters but for some reason he was never given the proper light he deserved in the WWF. He may have been a little too small for the giants of the WWF. I mean he's nearly a foot short than the average sized guys in the company. People would have a hard time believing Taz could suplex The Big Show. Plus he was getting older. I think Taz made out great though in the end. He's a color commentator. How many wrestlers get that kind of gig when they're bodies have worn themselves out? Not many. It was in his best interest to retire from the ring and be who he is today. He was the king of ECW and I don't think the WWF ever really robbed him of his badass image. They always allowed him to be that meanass grappler from Red Hook who could destroy you in a heartbeat. He just had no place in the political WWF. But he did make history while in the WWF. He's the only wrestler to hold the ECW title (when they were seperate companies) while in the WWF. He was the only ECW champion to wrestler the WWF champion on national tv. He was the first wrestler to defeat the undefeated Kurt Angle at Wrestlemania. There were a few other accomplishments he made in the WWF. Taz said he had three goals when he got into pro wrestling: Hold a title at some point, make a living at it and wrestle at MSG. He did all three. I'd say he's content.

You're preachin to the choir..like I said I'm a big time time Taz fan. Being from Canarsie Brooklyn, it was only natural to take a liking to him. I met him at WWF New York years ago, and the guy did nothing for me in person. He came across as a bit of a snob, well all the other wrestlers were more than friendly.
